Members registered for international conventions organized by Australasian Porcelain Art Teachers (APAT)
HKPPC Team: Rosemary Oh, Lim Kum Yoke, Meelee Casey, Ida Yu, and Corinna Chan.
Besides attending the exhibition, members took this opportunity to strengthen their understanding in China painting by attending lectures on theories, one of them is ‘New direction for porcelain painting and design’ conducted by Sandra Brown. We are inspired to step out of traditional frames by regarding China painting as a tool and using different textures to tell a story. To achieve this, artists may incorporate textures and patterns we see in daily life like the shoreline, rocks and weaving nets into designs and explore new directions by making the artwork to reflect a story.
Members put theories into practice and attended a number of ‘Paint A Long’ and ‘Demonstrations’ conducted by international artists to improve, not only on traditional porcelain painting skills, but also on new techniques. These include sessions on technique by Rocio Borobia of Mexico and sessions on skills by Andrew Orr of USA, Andreas Knobl of Germany, Filipe Pereira of Portugal, E Hales and many artists of Australia.
Members enjoyed meeting fellow artists and teachers again and also purchasing porcelain painting related items at the commercial booths.
As participation in the convention is so rewarding, members look forward to the 12th APAT Exhibition & Convention which will be held on 14th to 17th October 2009 in The Esplanade Hotel in Fremantle, Perth. Western Australia is the host and Hong Kong is geographically classified to this region, so our executive committee members will take an active role in the event.

Members attended the exhibition, watched the experts at work at their own fields of expertise during the demonstrations, and attended the workshops conducted by Andrew Orr and Filipe Pereira. Members had a very fruitful time.
At the grand gala dinner, members were invited to carry their respective country's flags. Rosemary proudly carried the Singaporean flag, Janny for Hong Kong and May for Malaysia.
As members of APAT, we were invited to exhibit and sell our porcelain pieces. May Cheong-Sahgal's Asian pieces were snapped by an Australian couple who were Asian art lovers. They actually waited till the exhibition was over to meet May.
